The experience of having a blog is very rewarding, and it gives you the opportunity to meet and connect with other bloggers, to learn a lot, but in this whole process, you also realize that it is important to protect the content that you have spent so many hours creating, especially to avoid your content being misused on other blogs or websites.
So in this post I will explain each of the problems I have detected in the two years that my Blog has been running, and I will explain how I have corrected them and protected myself from spammers .
7 Tips to Protect the Contents of Your Blog or Website
1.- Protect your blog images
One of the first things I noticed as a Blogger is that there are users who “copy and paste” your content, as is, and publish it on their blogs. This is bad practice because with respect to images, they will be using the bandwidth of a third-party server, in this case yours, thus reducing the resources of your machine.
This practice is known as Hotlinking , and there are several ways to protect yourself from it:
1.- The best solution: Talk to your hosting company and have them activate protection against Hotlinking.
2.- A good solution: Another way to solve it is by installing this free WordPress plugin , and this way no one will be able to use the visual resources of your server.
3.- More complex solution: The last way to solve it is by adding the following script to our .htacess file:
How do we know if it works?
You find an image of yours published on page seo service on another blog but that is linked to your server, and you certify that the image is no longer visible, in this case a broken image will appear.
2.- Show your Feed in Summary mode
By default, our WordPress Feed will display the complete Blog entries, and we will be at the mercy of automatic tools taking our entire article and publishing it on other blogs or websites, thus generating duplicate content that could negatively affect us.
How do we solve it?
I owe the solution to my friend Javier Marcilla , and to apply it we go to the private part of our Wordpress, and click on Settings > Reading , and check the option “Show, for each entry in the feed,” in summary mode, the solution is that simple and easy.

3.- Protect the authorship of your content
The first step will be to create a Google Plus account , since we need our content to have the invisible signature of rel=”author” and for it to be associated with our Google Plus account.
Once you have created the account, what you have to do is go to this URL plus.google.com/me/about/edit , and then click on the “links” tab and add our Blog in the “contribute to” section, as seen in the following image.
author's mark
And finally, what we need to do is add this metadata to our Blog so that it adds the author tag. To do this, we go to the Social section of the Wordpress SEO by Yoast plugin , and go to the Google+ section and add our profile, as shown in the following image.
author google plus
As a curiosity and if you have been using Google+ for some time, here is a tool that allows you to analyze your Author Rank .

4.- Add an authorship link in the Feed
The goal of this tip is to add a link within the Feed to all our publications. I owe this tip to Luis Villanueva and it allows you to add a “nofollow” link to your page, which indicates to the search engine that we are the authors of said content.
Why a “nofollow” link?
Since we do not know where our content may end up being published, or for example if it is being used as a negative SEO strategy , it is best to add the “nofollow” link and thus avoid problems.
How do we do it?
We go to the RSS section of the Wordpress SEO by Yoast plugin and add a script similar to this one:
Here is an image so you can see where you have to insert it:

5.- Monitor the publication of your content on other Blogs or Websites
An important aspect is to monitor and analyze from time to time whether other blogs that share part of our content are referencing us correctly. I think that any blogger values the work and effort that goes into writing articles for their readers, so it is normal for them to request that other blogs that echo the same article respect the authorship of the same and add a link to the source, but this leads me to an interesting question:
What would be the most correct format to mention the author of a content?
If we look at different blogs and websites we will see different ways of mentioning the author, but in my opinion the most correct and recommendable option is to mention the author and add a link to the source, and this could be done in two different ways:
1.- Using the author himself as the anchor text of the link.
Author or Source: Miguel Florido
2.- Making a mix. In this case, when they take an idea, advice or fragment, and want to mention the source where they have read it.
Example: A very interesting SEO article by Miguel Florido

Tools to detect content published on other blogs or websites:
1.- Copyscape
One of the oldest and also one of my favorites to find published content of my articles in other Blogs.
2.- Duplichecker
You add a text and it searches for matches on the Internet, very easy to use.
3.- Plagiarism

4.- Similar Page Checker
This tool compares your website with another page that you suspect has taken content from your Blog, either partially or totally.

6.- Create alerts with your name and/or brand
Google Alerts is a tool to monitor and receive alerts about content on topics that we like, but we can also use it to receive alerts when someone mentions us or our brand, and in this way check if they have correctly linked the source of the article.

6 Useful Protection Tips for Blogs and Bloggers
1.- Protect your Chrome browser
It's my favorite browser and the one I use the most, but right now, without us even realizing it, extensions and software can be installed that can slow down our browser and even obtain information about what we do. To avoid this, I recommend that you install the Software Removal Tool , which will scan your browser for suspicious things and remove anything strange it finds.
software removal tool
It will also disable all extensions and delete cookies and temporary files from the browser, thus performing a complete cleanup.
Once you're done, I recommend you re-enable any extensions you need.
2.- Protect your computer and browsing with a good antivirus
There are people who are unaware that if a page is infected with a virus or malware, just by browsing it and without having to download anything, we can be infected with this "little animal", this makes it essential that we have an antivirus that protects us from all types of threats and with which we can browse with complete peace of mind.
That is why I am going to recommend a free antivirus, specifically AVG Antivirus Free 2015 , with which you can be much more relaxed and you can be warned when you are browsing a website that has a virus or malware.

3.- Protect your Blog with Wordfence
Wordfence is a free Wordpress plugin that can be used to detect vulnerabilities or threats on your blog.
But before analyzing your Blog you will have to configure it correctly and mark these 4 checks that are not activated by default:
wordfence configuration
Scan theme files against repository versions for changes: We will activate this option to analyze the theme files.
Scan plugin files against repository versions for changes: We will activate this option to analyze the plugins in search of viruses or malware.
Scan files outside your WordPress installation: We will activate this option to analyze other domain files that are outside of WordPress.
Scan image files as if they were executable: The latest hacking trend is to disguise malware as an image and upload it to the Wordpress images folder, so it is very important that you activate this option to see if you have any images that are not actually executable.
Once configured, what you have to do is perform an analysis and wait for the results. I recommend that you restore all the files that are suspicious and delete those that have nothing to do with the WordPress installation, the theme or the plugins you use.
Here are some more tips to improve security in Wordpress .
4.- Make a daily backup
I recommend that you make a daily backup of all your blog files and the database. Although there are different WordPress plugins to do this, the best way is to configure it from your own hosting service, so that in case of a serious problem you can restore a backup in a short time.
5.- Protect your copyrights of your images and infographics
Protecting the copyright of your images on the Internet is very important to prevent them from being misused, and to prevent them from being published on other websites if we do not want it.
Image copyright is a topic that raises many questions, but it is important to note that to generate copyright it is not necessary to register anything , but rather they arise from the creation of the work itself.
6.- Hire a good Hosting for your Blog
Choosing a hosting greatly affects the availability and security of our web project or blog, so I recommend that you carefully analyze the different hosting companies for Wordpress, to see which one best suits your needs.
A good hosting not only provides a service but also creates a relationship of trust and proximity. An example of this is the company Raiola Networks , a company that I have been with for 4 months and I am delighted with. I could give many reasons but I will summarise it in two: for the quality of its professionals and for their personal warmth.
These professionals have helped me to optimize the speed of my blog to the maximum and with this I have achieved an improvement in organic visibility, which has led to an increase of up to 50% in web traffic , which is truly amazing…
So I can say, without risk of being wrong, that “I Love Raiola Networks”.
