The current Emir of Qatar is Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who has held this position since June 25, 2013. He succeeded his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, following the latter's abdication. Born on June 3, 1980, in Doha, Sheikh Tamim completed his education in the United Kingdom, including training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1998.
